A Proposal for Enhancing Internet Naming
نویسنده
چکیده
Solutions for mobility, multi-homing, support for localised address management (i.e. via NATs), and end-to-end security are functions that Internet users find increasingly desirable. Their respective solutions have not been developed in concert and their combined use may not be harmonious. Meanwhile, the Internet has a number of different namespaces, for example the IP address or the Domain Name. In recent years, some have proposed that the Internet’s namespaces are not sufficiently rich and that the current concept of an address is too limiting. One proposal, the concept of separating an address into an Identifier and a separate Locator, has been controversial in the Internet community for years. It has been considered within the IETF and IRTF several times, but was always rejected as unworkable. This paper takes the position that an alternative approach to using the Identifier-Locator split to evolve the naming in the Internet can provide elegant solutions to the key problems listed above, without changing the core routing architecture, offering practical and deployable engineering solutions. Internet-Drafts are draft documents valid for a maximum of six months and may be updated, replaced, or obsoleted by other documents at any time. It is inappropriate to use Internet-Drafts as refer...

Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) network is a promising technology to enhance road safety. It is also the fundamental technology to implement vehicular technology and application such as autonomous driving, firmware over the air (FOTA) for in-vehicle electronic control unit (ECU). However, the IP based on end-host addressing is not well suited for certain vehicular applications. Content-centric network...
متن کاملNaming Plan for Internet Directory-Enabled Applications", RFC 2377
Application of the conventional X.500 approach to naming has heretofore, in the experience of the authors, proven to be an obstacle to the wide deployment of directory-enabled applications on the Internet. We propose a new directory naming plan that leverages the strengths of the most popular and successful Internet naming schemes for naming objects in a hierarchical directory. This plan can, w...

متن کاملCoap Utilization for Building Control Draft-vanderstok-core-bc-05
This draft describes an example use of the RESTful CoAP protocol for building automation and control (BAC) applications such as HVAC and lighting. A few basic design assumptions are stated first, then URI structure is utilized to define group as well as unicast scope for RESTful operations. This proposal supports the view that 1) service discovery is complementary to resource discovery and faci...
